I've been following with some interest a fellow blogger's travails with a world wide technology manufacturer. After a frustrating experience he's taken a humorous outlook-very funny.
This incident caused me to think a little more about the experience people have with me and my church.
- Do I and my church for that matter, listen well to those who have needs?
- Am I quick to pass a 'problem' off to someone else?
- Do I realize that when a person has a bad experience with me or my church they'll likely communicate that somehow?
- Am I equipped or have I equipped someone else to answer questions, make appropriate decisions and take care of people's real concerns?
Leonard Sweet says this in a recent book; "Leadership has more to do with the ears than with the eyes."
Part of leadership involves hearing about when you've blown it or messed up. Most won't tell you, but they'll tell someone else. I'm not advocating listening and catering to complaining crank-wads who don't even like themselves.....but I'm interested in listening to the real life "posts" of people who on some level trusted me or my church enough to buy into what we've been putting out there.
Seth Godin says this; "If your organization isn't watching whats being said about you in the blogosphere, you're in big trouble. Instead of learning, you're clueless. Instead of being able to fix problems before they snowball, you're waiting for the avalanche."
The world wide company says this on their official blog site; "Find out what company leaders, topic experts and guest bloggers think about the technology landscape of today - and tomorrow. Become part of the conversation by reading and sharing your comments with us."
Sometimes people don't care what you think about today or tomorrow...they just want you to listen and help.
I hope I can hear that.
"Complaining crank- wads"...that's a keeper.
Good Post.
