This past week at the ICC several bloggers assembled to meet, eat lunch and talk about the blogosphere. In addition to meeting some really great people I came away with some insights:
- Blogging enhances my leadership-easy and immediate access to great leaders and their ideas is now available to anyone anywhere 24/7. We no longer have to depend solely upon conferences and journals or have to overcome barriers like distance and inaccessibility. The Leadership blog is just one example as is the Drive Conference now available online.
- Online community is real community-the relationships fostered through reciprocal blog reading and commenting are authentic and meaningful. Think about the Apostle Paul and his letters to the churches-they shared deep community and loved hearing his words read over and over.
- Blogging refines and focuses my ideas-blogging causes me to write, rewrite and refine my words that will be issued for public consumption. I usually end up hitting the backspace key several times when crafting a post.
- Blogging gives others another view of my life-there’s the public me, the leader me, the husband me…you get the idea. The blogging me provides others a unique view into my mind, my heart and well my randomness….pretty scary but also pretty cool. Credit to Dan V. for this insight.
Props to Tony for getting us together.
