I must confess that I have a love hate relationship with the TV. Growing up as a latch-key kid I enjoyed many an after school veg-out with re-runs and loved that Saturday morning Scooby-Doo and afternoons of Georgia Championship Wrestling. I'm loving the DVR which allows me to schedule viewing when it works for me and how did I live without the FF option?
At times TV can Rule our lives....the signs are subtle at first but once expressed I know the source...
- Cranky and fussy children
- Lower grades at school
- General dissatisfaction with what God has given us
- Heightened irritability in everyone
- Messy rooms
- Lack of careful listening
When any of these begin showing up with greater frequency and intensity we simply shut it down by turning off the TV. We have a family value:TV is a privilege not a right. TV can be beneficial, our family has really grown interested in becoming more Green in our lifestyle...thanks to some great programming. It can also divide-who gets the remote, what show will we watch etc. Growing up I had a TV in my bedroom-loved it as a kid but it led to my family being isolated from each other. We don't allow TV's in bedrooms for that reason.
On days when I'm feeling the negative effects of the one-eyed giant I sometimes think about unplugging it all together.....
Do you have any TV rules?
