I don't have the survey data to back this up, only a history of head wounds and battle scars...but my hunch is that 90% of the people you meet don't handle conflict well. Conflict is part of life, always has been..always will be. Recently I've waded into many conflicts regarding misunderstandings, inappropriate behaviors and outright sin. Here are some lessons I've learned about handling conflict along the way....I've lifted the major points for this post...if you'd like the commentary I'll email you a copy.
1. Get
all the facts/data before you make a judgment.
2. Stick
with the present situation-avoid dragging up the past.
3. Gather
hard evidence and stick with what you have observed.
4. Confront
with Caution, Care, Humility and Sadness.
5. Let
them answer for themselves.
6. Repeat
back to them their response.
7. Share
your response and subsequent consequences.
8. Ask if
they have questions.
9. Follow
up.
10. Treat
them as a person not a problem.
11. Be
aware and wise, protect your ministry and your people, and yourself.
12. Communicate
with appropriate Staff throughout this process-those who need to be in the know.
