Back when the earth's crust was hardening....I attended something called VBS at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Those three letters stand for Vacation....Bible....School...just wanted to help my seeker and un-churched blog reading contingent. As an elementary kid I didn't like these three words...
- Vacation-meant being trapped in the backseat of my parent's Ford Granada for hours on end all the while being subjected to Southern Gospel 8-Tracks.
- Bible-I had the blue picture Bible with Jesus' picture on the front-you know the one with him welcoming the kids....I liked the outside cover but just didn't understand the words inside.
- School-nuff said.
I didn't have a stellar VBS career...kicked out one year....hurt playing London Bridge another ....hated those coconut cookies and wanted more than a shot-glass of kool-aid...most vivid memory was creating a chicken by gluing beans to board during crafts.
This week I'm back at VBS, only we don't call it that at my church. It's week@the Creek...our theme is 2IB(To Infinity and Beyond). I'm a crew leader for a K-2 grade group. I think our week will be much cooler than the ones I remember....we've got a rocking band..a space ship..a jump house...we're making cool crafts and tonight our snack---Galactic Worm Gue.
Hopefully I won't get kicked out this year....
